Malaysia Hope In Golf
Asia leading golfers, including defending champion Ben Leong of Malaysia is expected to start at one million Rm1 Holdings Worldwide Selangor Masters 5-8 August, at the Seri Selangor Golf Club in Kota Damansara.
Asian Tour sanctioned tournament, with the support of the Selangor government is expected to see 156 players - 112 Asian Tour professionals, 36 local professionals and eight wild cards - competitors.
'Championship last year was a huge success. The State Government has pledged to raise Selangor Masters and we continue with our strategic efforts to ensure that it remains the top international tournament, "said Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mahmud Ramla in a press conference here Tuesday.
Earlier Ramla signed a sponsorship agreement with the Asian Tour executive chairman Kyi Hla He and Worldwide Holdings CEO also Azlina Zakaria.
With the agreement, states would be that the staging prestigious tournament in 2010.
The organizers have also attributed to the data for the Selangor Masters winner and runner-up at its inaugural Selangor International Junior Masters.
The first contest will be held from July 31 to 2 august in the same place in the tournament.
"We will organize Junior Masters Label Selangor before the Worldwide Selangor Masters Holdings. The tournament is open to all young golfers from around the world.
"The young golfers will be able to compete with the best in Asia. We hope that our own talented golfers will strive to achieve success, not only on Malaysian soil, but also internationally," said Ramla.
But the 36 slots to said Kyi Malaysian golfers will be determined by its classification in the Asian Tour and performance in different championships at local and regional level.
"We have had a game a day before the Selangor Masters to choose eight wild cards. Qualifying Round will be held on 2 ago," he says.
