Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the Government is allocating huge amount of money in the bid to boost sports standard in Sabah.

He said that under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) over RM83 million had been allocated for the repairs and upgrading of sports complexes in major districts.

This year, about RM6 million was channeled for sports development and another RM3.8 million for youth development, he said in his speech to launch the Sabah Games (Saga) IV at the Sports Complex here Monday.

His speech was delivered by Deputy Chief Minister cum Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.

Besides, he said the government through the Youth and Sports Ministry was also allocating annual grants to State sports associations to assist them in their activities.

Musa assured that more sports facilities would be built in the districts in the State to support the creation of a community of sporting culture.

He hoped the Sabah Games would be the field to unearth raw talents in sports to bring Sabah to a higher pedestal in the national and international level.

Musa who is also Finance Minister said he fully supported the idea to turn Sabah Games into sports carnival that fully involves the local community.

He welcomed the proactive efforts of the Youth and Sports Ministry in making improvement to the Games and he was confident that the move would contribute to the improvement of the overall performance of the athletes.

The fourth edition of the Games saw 25 contingents representing the various districts in Sabah participating in 18 sporting disciplines involving about 4,000 athletes.
